Installation Instructions For Long Forend (R4): Tools required:1/8" allen wrench and flathead screwdriver. Make sure magazine is removed and chamber is empty. Installation assumes bipod forend is installed and must be removed and also the gun is a C/CA model, A+B models require front sight removal before install. STEP1 Unfold bipod as if in use and remove spring that is between the two bipod legs. The spring legs sit in pockets and can be pulled out. STEP2 Next the pin that retains the bipod leg on the pivot pin must be removed. With bipod positioned almost perpendicular with barrel as if in use but slightly folded back toward reciever pinch the bipod legs towards one another at the point towards the muzzle. This should have the pin positioned so that by using a utility knife or other thin narrow tool it can be pushed out. A toothpick or pc of wire may be needed to push it the rest of the way out. STEP3 With the pin removed grab a hold of the bipod leg and pop him off the pivot pin. STEP4 With bipod leg removed pivot pin is slid out of the gas block. STEP5 Now remove the retaining clip that is located on the barrel nut. STEP6 Now the the ring that locks the bipod in the folded position when not in use must be removed. This must be split. While the aluminum forend will fit if not removed, the interface strength will be greatly diminished if not allowed to go all the way over the barrel nut and against the shoulder. The split ring seems to work fine when reassembled in stock bipod configuration but I would not plan on being able to go back to that configuration to be on the safe side. To give yourself the best chance of going back to that configuration I would split the ring 180 degrees from the gas block orientation feature of the ring. I would also split it as thin as possible (dremel blade or hacksaw). We used snips. Slide off barrel nut and over the barrel to give clearance for cutting. Once cut slide gas tube back to remove ring. STEP7 Next remove spring that sat behind the ring. STEP8 With bipod assembly removed the aluminum forend can be installed. STEP9 Remove clamping screw post and screw from forend. Slide forend over barrel and back onto barrel nut. STEP10 Make sure forend is all the way back over barrel nut and against the shoulder. STEP11 With gas tube in place orient forend so gas tube to forend top slot reveals are even. Place clamping screw post in place and then screw. Tighten down to 9-10 ft/lbs. Blue Loctite is a good idea as well.

As a longshot, I called the customer service line at 5:30 on a Friday for some help mounting. I Spoke with Jason for about 15 minutes as he walked me through mounting this on a su16 E version. Unmatched customer service and a beautiful looking product. 10/10

I recently purchased the aluminum forend for my SU-16 and I absolutely love this thing. It completely changed the feel of the gun when aiming and firing. It feels far more solid now, like it's one unit.

I also ordered one M-LOK rail for the bottom front of the forend and attached a Magpul AFG-2 angled fore grip to it. In addition, I used some Magpul M-Lok rail cover (type 1) halfway up on both sides for the length of the angled fore grip.

This produced an excellent hold point and the rail covers protect against the heat generated from the barrel. I fired 40 rounds in quick succession and while the rest of the forend and barrel were way too hot to touch, the grip area was barely even warm.

I cannot recommend this product too highly. It changed what was a decent rifle into an excellent rifle. It's now my favorite gun.

So the installation was easy enough and the rails went on fine. Everyone was great until the 4th mag change. The design of the fore-end is pretty neat, but it doesn't address the heat build up from the SU-16. Quite frankly it is quite worse than the factory fore-end. However, it won't melt in your hands because it's metal. However, because it's metal, it'll heat up a lot faster. So people who think they're gonna have some mag-pul grip in the front, forget about it. If the fore-end was fatter at the bottom, and maybe had some material inside to contend with the heat, it would make this sleek ergonomic fore-end amazing. I was going to put this on a su 16.
But i had a plr 16 in house so i put it on the PLR 16 then a 5" fake can inside the longer grip.
Added a green laser illuminator and angled for grip.
plenty of room. no heat problems. The 11 oz fake can helps sound, flash, felt recoil and muzzle rise.
It all looks and works well together.

completely essential for the su, and the price is 100% worth it, I run mine with magpul rails because, although I sometimes just want to leave it bare it looks so neat, it does get real HOT after some shooting
